The University of Minnesota Registrar has certified that I have completed the requirements for the Master of Education in Youth Development Leadership degree.
The degree award date will be December 31, 2018. It will be recorded on my official transcript in mid-January, and I will receive my official diploma in March. I am almost officially official.
Many people are often surprised at the mention of my youth suicide prevention emphasis of my M.Ed. studies. I always explain that I am not a therapist, but hope to work to improve programs in schools and organizations to identify students at risks, and to direct them to the professional services they need.
This Masters degree has been four years in the making. I could have been done much sooner, but medical issues and disabilities make accomplishing these things in the same time as fully-abled individuals a bit harder. Despite the efforts to reduce barriers, sometimes extra time is all that it takes.
